feb#9: don’t mess with…

i claimed texas residency for a a good eight to nine years while living in california. it wasn’t until i lived in california longer than the years spent in texas, that i started saying i am from california. back when i lived in the rio grande valley of texas, i’m pretty sure my family was the only pilipino-american family. paras was prounounced parras (roll the r’s), rachel became raquel. and i loved it!

i was reminded when bday posts popped up on my FB feed from friends i grew up with in texas and in conversation with a colleague who also lived in texas.

homemade tortillas. tamales. frito pie. mums during homecoming. living next door to orchards. cowboy boots. marching band as celebrated as football. good friends. good culture. good memories.
